Electrotherapy - Cellular Excitation:
Electrotherapy.
This is a category of modality use that uses complex machinery to pass energy into the patient, affecting the way the tissues work and heal on a cellular level. The two categories are Cellular Excitation, and Neural Stimulation.
The principal forms of cellular excitation are Ultrasound (US) and Laser Therapy (LT). Basically, these two therapies pass energy waves (US, sound, LT light) through your skin and into the healing tissues below. These waves carry such energy that the “excite” the cells that absorb them, increasing the effectiveness of what they’re doing at the time – namely, trying to heal the injury. Both these modalities help at all stages of healing (except bleeding, if there is any) and help the body to finish each phase as quickly and effectively as possible; and so effect the overall healing process in the same way.
LT has some severe, possible side-effects, because the light is infrared, you can’t see it, and won’t blink if it is shone in your eye. If shone in your eye & you’re not wearing the goggles provided, this may damage the retina. We therefore insist that everyone in the room, when LT is being used, wears the goggles provided.
